Absolute nonsense!
Many old cottages in the UK have low ceilings because the people back then were shorter but to say most of the houses have ceilings under 6' is simply not true. They were also timber construction with structural beams often placed in awkward places needing some ducking.
Wealthier people had much higher ceilings because they could afford them and saved money on the construction of the tied cottages for their workers.
Building codes in the 20th century required a similar height ceiling to ours and an average 12' for Oz is nonsense.
As for your other comments, you have no sense of style.
