Hey all
Not being a betting man other than investing in gas explorers, I am somewhat limited in terminology of the racing scene but I thought I would share the current odds as I see it at this point in time.
If we were at Randwick racecourse I think we are coming around the home turn with about 400m to run - there is a rise 1/2 way up the straight and many a favourite has dropped like being shot by a rifle after looking like the winner 300m out - be careful.
PD - Creative risk rating - safe to low risk :)
1. Yes please (currently 6/4 on)
Well prepared entrant who has been in work for a couple of years since a 19% stake was acquired by a smart syndicate.
Although, in the past the members of the syndicate have been pipped at the post and have been rightly accused of popping the corks somewhat prematurely.
In lead up races the trainer has allowed a number of inexperienced apprentices to ride the entrant with very mixed results. But for the big one, the trainer is definitely sending a man to do the man's job - ridden by David 'Knuckles' Knox.
A great jockey indeed, but, in the past has saluted the judge prematurely out of the saddle and whip in the air only to be run down in the last 50 metres.
Maybe he has learned the lesson as he has been quoted to say;
" I will never let another horse ride by "
We will see - the smart money is definitely on the 'YES'with interest as far as the Cayman Islands.
There is talk of a syndicate based in Dubai wanting to acquire the filly for breading purposes if she can win this one - time will tell
2. NOwayJose (currently 8/1)
A most erratic performer but with a very big heart. Never expected to be in this position over this distance but has adapted magnificently. In qualifiers it was unloved in the betting and has been referred to as a donkey.
At the moment there is daylight between the two runners but Jose will work hard to the line.
The connections of JOse have an interest in Ýes please'so there will not be tears in the enclosure from these people is Ýes Please'gets up - although I don't see the 2 syndicates popping a cork together soon.
Ridden in qualifiers by a number of capable apprentices but now aptly guided by a young chap with a big future in the sport - careful - he is very free with the whip and will use it on anything within striking distance.
Smart money is here too - particularly for the EXACTA
This is the people's favourite and a victory would see a sea of hats in the air from the bleachers. Although, there is a concern after that as to how they will find their hats again :). The people will worry about that later.
The word from Çlarence the Clocker' is that the connections of 'yesplease'will make a proper offer on the filly if she does get up - she will be off to Dubai to breed to :)
Disclosure: My money is on 'Jose'with a saver on ÝES please'
3. Originofthespecies (20/1)
Not much has been heard about this runner, in fact, at this point we don't know if the entrances have been paid. Definitely would qualify for the event and loves the distance. Being a QLD trained entrant, NSW racing will be no problem in terms of direction.
Ridden by Grant 'the saviour 'King - it is will be ridden well back in the field and very much hands n heals. He won't use the whip and will look for a passage along the fence. Expected to do the best work in the last 50 metres and if interest on the day - could surprise.
What is more than the people's favourite ? - definitely this runner - nobody loses here, even the connections of Ýesplease' won't be celebrating but will have a roll of cash that would choke a horse (sorry) to wipe the tears away.
There ya have it - I have backed 'Jose'for a big win, a saver on Ýes please' and a few bucks on the outsider.
YOU KNOW WHAT? - the bookies have not set the book right - we can't lose!!!!!!!!!
The best to all
Bunda 'maggots' Lee (cause everything he buys is dead!)
