They are trawling the reports on the asx looking for companies that are vulnerable and require access to capital and actively seeking them out - selling their story etc.
So esi would have been tapped on the shoulder by La Jolly so to speak and esi accepted the advances.
They don't need to be in on inside info to make money doing what they are doing.
