I guess they would be drilling Espadon by now or soon anyway. Of interest I note in the HDR August Information Brochure on their website that it says about Espadon "Shallow gas requires well to be deviated". A bit interesting don't you think? Any geologists or drillers out there care to comment .. geos, chinguetti, oilleak and others?? Its miocene channel sands draped over a salt dome with radially faulted compartments as at Chinguetti .. which sounds good. Also in the info Brochure on page 17 (Well selection Criteria) they describe the different aims of this years campaign and one is "a definitve test of the outboard fans" and site egs as Merou West or Lead 127. Perhaps Espadon is that test? Does anyone know if Espadon was called Lead 127 prior to being selected??
I would expect interest to build again next week as short of any problems they should be at around 2400m by Monday given that the water is at 1600m depth.
