The reason why long serving employees feature so prominently in fraud statistics is that these people get to know what internal controls are in effect,how to beat these internal controls and the fact that their word is always taken as gospel by other staff.In this age of cost cutting old concepts of separation of duties,two signatures on cheques,value limits for transaction approval etc have gone largely out the window.There just are not these people around anymore.Even the simple requirement for people in sensitive positions to take regular annual leave is not monitored closely.
Personal greed is still the main reason for fraud.
