There is a sad story in the SMH today that describes the impossible situation for the boat people once they arrive.
It highlights the abject cruelty of the government's open-door policy.
The story is about a father and son. The father has come twice by boat, after going back to Iraq once already. But then he came out again. His son is young and wants to work, but can't of course. It is just horrific to condemn a young intelligent person to the fate of forced nothing. The son is afraid that if he does work at all, and gets caught, he will be sent to Manus Island.
It is just an horrific situation, and alone is enough to condemn this government for its selfish policy.
Invite them in, and then condemn them to extreme mental anguish, which will eventually evolve in to crime and probably jail.
