I must ask the converse. Who says it's unsuitable?
And the sugar industry does not use mega-tonnes of pesticides. They don't work on cane beetles and rats. The green lobby is trying to change the way they farm regards fertiliser, ploughing and thrash burning [wheat farmers too]. It's a slow process though.
