noexam, China is a State-mandated quasi-capitalist Communist producer society. This inevitably feeds corruption, and if there is any leeway whatsoever, the oligarchs will go for the lowest cost option, as it bolsters their profits, and secures their adherence to the most recent 5-year plan.
The lowest cost option for Chinese companies is to source Co from the DRC. I simply cannot see them seeking an "ethical" source of Co in the near future - it's ALL about the bottom line.
