thediceman. A gateway is just a front end computer which filters and distributes transacitons, ususally connected to a router. I know for a fact that there is a weak link in the chain as I had a business that managed gateways for financial transactions. If it is power supply there should be backup, if it is a telephone line you should be able to swap to a dedicated line, and if it is physical hardware, you should have backup equipment, as we did in all events.
