The troponin protocol is usually a test on arrival and another test 6-8 hours later. Looking for a rise above a threshold/cut-off value.
Troponin would have to be one of the most commonly used blood tests in an A+E because everyone's reflex response to chest pain is to bloody run a troponin to make sure it isn't an acute coronary syndrome event. Never mind the knife hanging out of the chest which could be the most likely culprit
