If I may ask a question
why would a Federal Govt give a toss about a few rich mining companies if diplomatically they were persuaded it as a benefit for the Federal coffers, and reminded that Australia has other fish to fry.
Choosing between selling up some gold, and getting taxes to fund social programs (MRRT anyone?), its a no-brianer.
Its the difference between a sole party with 100 year view, and a mulit-party system with a three year view.
Do you not agree?
