    It's not especially because of anyone's race (N. African boy this time) that riots necessarily start in France. It's no "civil war" because the vast majority of the French are not interested in attacking officials or the establishment because of a single death.

    The main reason why this got so out of hand is because of the way it was orchestrated and propagated using social media: twitter, instagram, snapchat, etc... and it wasn't confined to his home town but was telegraphed to other major cities and towns using social media.

    Anyway France has a long history of "protesting" or rioting for just about anything and it often involves burning lots a stuff in the streets: cars and buildings, vandalising and looting shops. e.g. this is pretty typical behaviour by fans of losing teams after big soccer matches and disgruntled workers who perceive injustices in law reforms by the government, for example.

    It's all part of the fabric of French culture since the Revolution.

    What about all the ongoing yellow vest riots?
