For stationary use, I think the competition will come from vanadium redox flow batteries and other forms of energy storage.
Very large energy storage systems, such as the one planned for the Northern Territory (Sun Cable), will probably need several types of energy storage, (including Li-ion batteries).
The planned energy storage for Sun Cable is 36-42 GWh.
If mega-projects catch on, semi-arid or desert locations in most continents will need appropriate energy storage systems and lithium can’t do the lot.
The good part is, lithium is far and away the best option for mobility and smaller device applications and probably the most profitable.
