A compromise in regards to EV subsidies was reached in Germany, I guess it is better than nothing:
"Berlin The federal government has agreed on new subsidy rules for the purchase of electric cars. As the Handelsblatt learned from government circles, the subsidy will drop from the current 6,000 euros to 4,500 euros in the future for vehicles that cost less than 40,000 euros. For more expensive purely electric cars, the subsidy drops to 3,000 euros.
Cars with a purchase price of more than 65,000 euros or more will still not receive any funding. In the course of 2023, the funding threshold should drop to the net list price of 45,000 euros. Buyers of cheaper vehicles should then only receive a subsidy of 3000 euros. The reduced premium will then only be paid to private car buyers, no longer for company or tradesmen's vehicles.
At the same time, the subsidy for the purchase of partially electric cars, so-called plug-in hybrids, will be abolished at the end of the current year.
The compromise ends a months-long dispute between Federal Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP) and the Greens. While Lindner has long considered the subsidy to be harmful and would prefer to abolish it, the Greens insisted on the coalition agreement. It stipulates that the previous funding will decrease, but will not finally expire until 2025.
The compromise is now: The funding will continue, but only until a total of 2.5 billion euros has been paid out. This will halve the funds for the e-car subsidies. Otherwise, it is feared, subsidies would have exploded to tens of billions in the coming years.
“It is important that it is clearly stated that the funding will expire. When the pot is empty, it's empty," said Bernd Reuther, spokesman for transport policy for the FDP parliamentary group. Another leading FDP official said he doesn't expect the money to even reach the second stage in 2023."
The article goes on to state that it is still unclear when the buyers will receive the subsidies or wether the car makers still have to give a (currently up to 3,000 euros) rebate. There will still be tax advantages for electric company cars but there won't be a malus for ICEVs when it comes to vehicle tax. The government target is to have 15 million battery electric cars on the road by 2030. At the beginning of this year there were 600,000 battery electric cars on the road and by June 135,000 additional BEVs were sold.
