If anyone has a few idle hours this weekend here is some reading for you: one of the House of Reps committees is currently running a formal inquiry into the transition to electric vehicles. They've recently closed off the period for submissions to be made, and have put all 104 submissions up on the parliamentary website.

Anyone could have put in a submission to the committee and there are heaps of private individuals who did. Also some major industry groups and players made the effort, including Toyota Australia, the Motor Trades Association, Australian Trucking Association and the Australian Electric Vehicles Association. Of course these industry bodies exist to advocate for their members but from what I have seen they usually put in well considered and well researched arguments. I know the ATA and the MTAA, to name just a couple, have been working hard on policy development in this area for a number of years now.
