Critical minerals, coal miners sink as Trump looks to cap imports

Critical minerals and coal miners weighed on the sharemarket after US President Donald Trump invoked emergency powers to boost US production of critical minerals, which could include coal, to become less reliant on imports.
Coal miners Yancoal and Whitehaven dragged, dropping 1.8 per cent and 2 per cent respectively. South32 dropped 4.3 per cent, Liontown Resources 4.3 per cent and Pilbara Minerals 3.5 per cent.
The executive order signed by Donald Trump on Friday will also see the US’ International Development Finance Corporation provide new financing for new mineral production projects.
