@1ronnie - I trade through a small company called Belldirect and they have some good advice as well as charts, but to check out the life history of a company I keep going back to Commsec, where I can call up a chart going back to the beginnings of a company. Sometimes I do it just for fun with the big companies, and it is amazing how long some of those success stories have lingered in a low s.p. range - often years! Really instructive.
I am guessing, the 'gamblers' (those who make their money on penny-stocks and day traders) are most active when the s.p. is low, so there is a casino mentality about in the early years of 'discovery' etc. Once the serious work of building a company begins, all kinds of difficulties can arise - and it will take time to build a sound and profitable company, which is also reflected in a rising s.p. - but that growth is more organic - and the 'gamblers' vanish, hence the s.p. lingers.
I am 'out' at the moment.
