It looks like Tesla's lining up a supply of Lithium Carbonate, which is usually used for LFP chemistries.
That's as opposed to lithium hydroxide, which is used in high nickel chemistries.
If this is accurate, looks like Tesla could be lining up lithium for in-house LFP production.
I suspect this is related to the LFP production equipment that they're purchasing from CATL.
From memory, that equipment is expected to produce LFP batteries for energy storage, rather than vehicles.
NEWS: Tesla signs 'lithium carbonate' supply deal with Yahua Group. Period runs from 2025 to 2027. However, the company did not disclose detailed prices or supply in the transaction. They have previously signed battery-grade lithium hydroxide contracts, and Tesla is Yahua's biggest customer.
