....like it or not, lithium's future remains in China's hands for a good number of years yet.
1,273,711 global EV sales in May
May 2024 saw passenger car and light duty vehicle EV sales increase by 14% month-on-month to 1.27 million units.
The EU & EFTA & UK and US & Canada both experienced a 3% month-on-month increase in EV sales, the smallest increase of all regions and a continuation of the struggle for growth both regions are experiencing in 2024.
BYD was again the best selling OEM in May, with over 285,000 EVs sold. BYD's sales have grown by 24% YTD, with over 70% of BYD’s actual growth this year coming from China.
The OEM is looking to expand into South Korea before the end of the year; a move that could disrupt the dominance of local OEMs, although this has not yet been the case since BYD entered Japan at the start of 2023.
