    ...aren't they good for mass adoption and a move away from fossil fuels? And cheaper for the consumer.

    ...except that lithium price needs to be affordably cheap to enable cheaper EVs to be produced for mass adoption.

    ....China is thinking at the societal wide level, not to make a few EV/lithium companies raking in bonanza profits.

    ....there is no use spending billions on EV charging infrastructure if EVs can't be produced cheaply for wider adoption (so EVs can't just be the vehicle for the wealthier) - and no one is going to spend those billions readily on EV charging infra if they can't see EV makers doing their part.
