    Big move by Renault:
    Following Tesla and the Chinese, Renault expects to use iron-based batteries in about half its EVs.
    It will offer LFP in all its EVs, the first of the legacy non-Chinese majors to go this far.

    ...it is inevitable that Western EV makers would have to shift from NCM to LFP to reduce battery cost and accordingly EV cost. LFP has less lithium than NCMs.

    ...first, less nickel in additional new EV batteries, then less lithium as sodium-ion batteries take their place in the smaller vehicle segment.

    ...more EVs sold but less lithium per EV as time progresses.

    ...5 years ago when Indonesia planned their nickel foray to get into the EV game, little did they realise where nickel's place would get to today. With battery chemical technology in a constant state of flux, we can't take lithium for granted as well although it is unlikely lithium would suffer a fate as bad as nickel.
