They will most likely get there one day but at the moment batteries don't have the energy density required.
You could theoretically install a large battery pack under the caravan floor although the cost and the weight increase simply wouldn't be practical.
But, down the track you could see how your ideas might become practical. Even to the point where the caravan could have electric drive/regen braking making the towing experience even better.
