Global plug-in EV sales set another record in 2020, powering through the pandemic and gobbling up market share from the walking dead ICE offerings. Tesla is dominating global sales for now. It will be an interesting rivalry with VW, and this is good for consumers. Tesla is doubling production capacity with factories in Texas and Germany this year, with a pickup truck, semi, and a compact $25k model coming out in ~2022.
The cost of EV batteries is now estimated to have dropped to the point where EVs have reached price parity with ICE equivalents. When sticker prices of EVs are suddenly cheaper than ICE, the gas mobile industry will implode with shocking speed. OEMs lacking strong EV product lines when that happens will be doomed. Hint - any OEM that didn’t make the list below is in deep trouble. Yes, even if they are huge. In fact, especially if they are huge. GM, I’m looking at you!
