CJ never once did I dispute that UK petrol prices are about triple Americas, the Yanks have had low fuel prices for years compared with Europe which is one of the reasons why the septic tanks have so many bloated thirsty barges used as personal transport over there. I took issue with your comment in Post #: 54095944 where you said Both England and Germany have large petrol taxes that add about 300% to the price of petrol.
There are 2 taxes on fuel in the UK, Excise at 57.95 p/litre and VAT at 20% of retail price. The RAC web page has a graph where the exact % of the average retail price of diesel and petrol is tax (including VAT) twice a week for the last 9 years (the % tax to 2 decimal places can be found by hovering your cursor over the graph at the required date). It was 60.51% on 1/7/21.

The retail price of petrol (using the wholesale price is just deceptive) before taxes isn't published on the webpage but you can deduce the % increase in retail petrol price from taxes on the 1st July 2021 using very simple maths (as previously stated it is 153%). All the other components of the pump price, (wholesale price, transport costs and retail margins) cannot be called taxes. Of course the fact that fuel is much more expensive in Europe than in the USA is just another incentive for the adoption of EVs there, I doubt if anyone would dispute that.

Cripes, now you have brought up the cost of electricity too and accuse me of tying to avoid that. Before you go down yet another rabbit hole I can assure you I won't be responding.
