There is an interesting conversation to be had here.
The reality was/is that it takes five acres of land to feed a horse and also you need to feed a horse even when it is not being used. If everyone tried to feed their horse or their team of horses on the side of the road can you imagine the consequences?
Like your grandfather, the average consumer doesn't put much thought into their arguments. The energy density of changing to a car or a tractor from a team of dozen horses makes sense.
Changing to a tractor or car that has less energy density than the one you are replacing makes no sense what so ever, especially when, like a horse, you need to feed it when you are not using it, let alone dealing with the pile of contaminates left at end of life cycle of the ev.
At least the horse left a heap of fertiliser for the garden when it was gone.
Why dont ev fanatics factor in the cost of the hidden expenses? Park one up in the cold over the winter eg -40 in canada and then tell me how much it costs to run. No one talks about how much of the world is at sub zero during the winter. Hint it is the majority....Now tell me how much energy goes into keeping evs usable in those conditions. It is obviously an inconvenient truth.
Even the poster child, Norway admits that even 20 years on the Taxpayer is still paying for their ev system. and they still cant make them viable. How many economies have the benefit of billions of oil dollars to support an ev system... Get it? billions of oil dollars to support their ev system, wake everyone you are getting screwed.
