1 tonne LCE requires 7.5 tonnes spodumene. If 1 tonne LCE, assuming battery size equals 50 kWh, gives you 22.2 vehicles, 1 tonne spodumene gives you about 3 vehicles. You are not wasting spodumene. Spodumene needs to be converted to the right formula to produce batteries, so you are converting spodumene to LCE to EVs.

1. Spodumene grades theoretically 8.03% Li20, so if exporting 6% grade spodumene in effect saying 74.7% of that concentrate is spodumene - https://www.911metallurgist.com/blog/froth-flotation-spodumene-processing-lithium-extraction.
2. At 8.03% theoretical Li20, essentially saying Li content is 3.72% (as you divide by 2.153 to go from Li20 to Li). At 6% grade spodumene LIi content is 2.78%.

3. Lithium carbonate (Li2CO3) has a Li content of 18.8, so need about 7.5 tonnes of 6% grade spodumene at a 90% recovery rate in the roasting process (i.e. 2.78% Li * 7.5 * 90%).
4. Lithium hydroxide monohydrate (LioH.H20) has a Li content of 16.5%, so need about 6.5 tonnes of 6% grade spodumene at a 90% recovery rate.
