Oops .... that story was not current, but published a year ago.

Still useful in regards giving an overview of VW’s pre-CoVid intent ?
    ie:
    - The intent to retool 16 factories factories to build 33 different electric cars under the Skoda, Audi, VW and Seat brands by mid-2023.
-The intent to buy 50 billion euros (US$56.57 billion) worth of battery cells from strategic partners; Northvolt, SKI, LG Chem, Samsung and CATL (Over what period ?)
    - The intent to provide suppliers with finance for tooling (??), and share the risk of installing new production capacity by joint venturing new factories.
    - The intent that from 2021 VW “will use electric battery cells using a composition of nickel, manganese and cobalt in a ratio of 8:1:1” (bar one supplier still using a ratio of 6:2:2.)
    - The intent to possibly use lithium iron (LFP) batteries on an ongoing basis in China.
    - The intent to switch to solid state cells intended to be ‘mass production ready’ in this half year.
    - The intent to possibly build its own battery factories in China.*

Since then there has been a bit of a slump in EV world - up and down the line- although, on March 9, 202o, Paul Winton wrote [in Forbes], that VW was still tipped by UBS to be the first mass market EV producer to make a profit from EV “with profits kicking in from 2022”...

Prior to this, in January [see here] VW had announced plans to acquire a 20% stake in Shenzhen-listed battery maker *Guoxuan High Tech

By May 29 this stake had been lifted to 26.5% [see here] and VW had also announced it was taking a 50% stake in Chinese auto manufacturer, JAC and upping its’ interests in its’ VW/JAC joint venture to 75%..

In the March Forbes story Paul (see story in the spoiler below) had also noted a report of “massive software glitches “ to do with VW’s new electric ID.3.

These, along similar problems with the Golf 8, rumours seem to have had strength, and may impact the UBS assessment he was quoting from?
The glitches have reportedly led to the immediate removal of VW’s CEO Herbert Diess - on 8/06/20 [see here] in a shakeup that, as of last Friday, 09/07/20 had possibly also extended to Skoda’s Chairman, Bernhard Maier (who will step down at the end of July [see here]).

Anyway sorry if my mix up confused anyone else and here’s that Paul Winton story

    cheers
