Joe Lowry summed up China's lithium strategy pretty well at a forum recently. He said vertically integrated producers don't care if they cop a loss on refining low grade lepidolite, because it causes the lithium price to drop precipitously. They then save much more money on the greater tonnes of higher grade lithium they buy from others to refine.
