I assume there was a good dose of sarcasm in that comment. I think you will find that EVs need to comply with all the safety laws that ICE vehicles already do. Seatbelts and associated pretensioning hardware, airbags, stability controls and crashworthyness all add complexity to modern cars (but not much extra weight) however I think most of us would regard those safety features as desirable things to have in our cars.
