In Finance news in The Australian today:Goldman Sachs says investors should buy Whitehaven Coal, Coronado Global Resources and South32 as Russia's invasion of Ukraine propels coal prices to five-year highs.
The broker now forecasts benchmark thermal coal (6,000kcal) to hit $US190/t in Q421 and average $US137/t in 2022, and benchmark met coal (Qld premium low vol) to average $US230/t in Q421 and $US175/t in 2022 on supply chains issues coupled with surging demand.
Rising coal prices sees Goldman Sachs upgrade its target price for South32 from $3.60 to $3.80, Whitehaven Coal goes from $2.80 to $3.70 and Coronado rises to $1.60 from $1.20.
Goldman Sachs has however downgraded New Hope from a buy rating to neutral, while lifting its target price from $2.20 to $2.50.
