It's not Kingaroy that Bligh is focusing on, edd. They never gave a toss about the locals until the media got hold of the story after the erroneous test.

Not sure if you're in Qld but the Bligh government has gone from one disaster to another and her approval rating is at an all-time low. Getting tough on Cougar is a welcome distraction from the media attention on the CSG projects, the asset sales, and everything else.

Scapegoat for what? To divert attention away from the truly environmentally polluting CSG industry because there is too much at stake with the $100B Gladstone LNG project for it to fail?

Bingo. Not that the CSG industry is really that bad either, but it's worse than UCG and on a much bigger scale, and the media are just starting to sniff around it. Bligh has put the state so heavily into debt that these CSG projects have to go ahead.

Is it a case of crucifying a minnow like Cougar so that Qld voters will think that Bligh is tough on the environment in hope that it will keep off its back about CSG?

Bingo again. Bligh desperately needs to do something that Queenslanders actually approve of. Given the biased media reporting and misinformation, I suspect most Queenslanders currently think UCG is going to cause cancer and that Len tortures kittens.

Where do the Greens come into it? They should be right behind Cougar and UCG.

Not really - UCG is cleaner than coal but the Greens want wind and solar and other pipe dreams. The Greens should really be right behind nuclear as well - the cleanest and cheapest energy source - but I don't need to tell you how they feel about that!
