A WEAK dollar has made a strong debut by Dyno Nobel even likelier as the explosives company prepares to pitch its $1 billion initial public offering to Australian investors this week.

Dyno Nobel executives Peter Richards, the chief executive officer, and Lars Johansen, the president of Dyno Nobel America, enjoyed an enthusiastic reception from foreign investors on their US roadshow, according to people familiar with the deal, and they will hope for a similar reception here as the IPO moves into its final stage.

Dyno Nobel should be listed in the first week of April.

Formerly a Scandinavian-based, private equity-owned company, Dyno is listing in Australia because of its very strong Australian business. It is second only to Orica in Australian explosives and number one in North America.

But the company won't be totally unknown to institutions here as the roadshow starts. Mr Richards has made an effort to lunch with many of them already and a number have been on a trip to Dyno's ammonium nitrate facility in Moura, Queensland.

The success or otherwise of the offering will be of more than usual interest to Macquarie Bank, which is leading the IPO along with Credit Suisse.

Macquarie acquired a 21 per cent interest in Dyno when it spearheaded the acquisition of the company by a consortium of investors and now stands to make hundreds of millions from its original investment.
