    TNT INCREASES HYBRID FLEET

TNT Express Australia has increased its commitment to environmentally sustainable technology with the addition of 10 more Hino diesel-electric hybrid trucks to its fleet.

The new trucks are in addition to the 10 already in service since early 2008 when TNT became the first company in Australia to operate a fleet of hybrid trucks.

TNT regional director Rod Barnes said the adoption of hybrid trucks had not only helped reduce the transport companys carbon footprint, but had injected a sense of pride into its workforce.

Adopting hybrids is a very important factor in TNT achieving its green KPIs, Mr Barnes said.

We are a transport company so we are very conscious of the footprint we create when we deliver freight. These 10 new hybrids are a very visible example of our environmental policies, but it goes beyond that.

We have seen a clear reduction in our emissions from the hybrids we already have and our employees are happy because they are recording significant fuel savings.

TNT has indicated each Hino Hybrid in its fleets reduces the companys greenhouse gas emissions by an average of 1,600 kilograms of CO2 a year.

CMI-Hino Laverton North branch manager Mark Dempsey presented Mr Barnes with the keys to the first of TNTs second delivery of hybrids.

Mr Dempsey believes the environmental and fuel-saving benefits seen by TNT, in a high-use industry, highlight the strength and benefits of Hinos hybrid technology.

The transport industrys emphasis on being green has grown enormously in the last couple of years, Mr Dempsey said.

Companies like TNT are leading the way and by increasing the size of the fleet they are endorsing the benefits of hybrid trucks.

TNTs latest delivery of Hino Hybrids will form part of its fleets in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth.
