A battle has erupted over a bid to light up the Opera House, to promote The Everest horse race.

Racing New South Wales wants to conduct the barrier draw on the steps of the Opera House with the horse, jockey and barrier number projected onto the sails of the iconic building.

The Everest is the world’s richest turf race and injected $100 million into the NSW economy last year.

Pictures of the draw would be beamed to racing enthusiasts around the world, adding to the already significant tourism boom the event creates.

Alan Jones invited Racing NSW CEO Peter V’landys and Opera House CEO Louise Herron onto his program to sort the situation out.

It ended in one of the most explosive interviews in recent memory.
