Hi Everyone! To be elibilbe for the RIO offer you need to be a shareholder as of 7pm EST Thursday 11 June 2009.
If you buy today, T+3 settlement means that settlement occurs the day after the 3rd day.
Given the Monday public holiday, I you buy today:
Day 1: Tuesday
Day 2: Wednesday
Day 3: Thursday 11/6/09
Settlement: Friday 12/6/09
Therefore, you are NOT a registered shareholder by Thursday 11/6/09 if you buy today, and will NOT BE ENTITLED to to participate in the rights offer.
Think about it guys... do you really think a company the size of RIO would out a "Money for Nothing" offer out there?
