    Considering the number of back flips and the perception that Rudd is a weak leader who stands for nothing, I cant see him dropping this tax.

    He may end up offering compensation similar to that offered to the electricity industry via the now defunk ETS, but he simply wont drop this tax. It would be political suicide.

    He has made a calculated risk with this decision that it will be popular in the main and at same time show that he can "stand up" to the big miners. What better way to toughen up your image than to have a fight with the Australian mining industry heavyweights.

    Rudd is desperate and this is a big play. For an election which should have never been close, now is. And Rudd has gone "ALL IN" with this tax. Reading his poker face, I dont think this time he is bluffing unfortunately.
