Terrible what's happening over there. The amount of suffering.
The quote refers to enlightenment. In other words, it's open to those who seek it. Enlightenment (or Christ consciousness) means the end of suffering, whether there's food & water or not.
But this isn't very satisfying to me in the sense that very few people even know what enlightenment is, let alone how to achieve it, let alone go through with it. Apparently it takes a lot of courage and enormous persistence. Knowing how to interpret religious texts isn't easy.
Some of the people in Gaza will have found that through extreme suffering comes surrender. Complete surrender can open people up to awakening. So even if they didn't know anything about the true meaning of religion, there would be some people in the midst of that situation who are not suffering right now. But probably only a tiny number. Surrender doesn't come naturally.
