@pintohoo; the air pressure where we live in NE Victoria tonight is sitting at just over 1040 hPa and the major high pressure cell stretches right across southern Australia thousands of kms wide.
It's massive - 20 hPa higher than 'normal' and about a thousand kms further south.
It's 'opposite' will also play out - the unseasonal and deep hurricane impacting the Caribbean is an example of what can be expected.
