I don't think that we are preparing adequately for climate change, be it natural or human induced. Look at the little ice age in the middle ages, an abrupt shift into a mini ice age which brought about the deaths of an estimated 75 million and untold suffering, and that was at a time when the population was a fraction of what we have now.
What would happen if such an event started happening in the next few decades? I tend to think that planning is far too much short term with no real idea or preparation for long term possibilities. History tells us that climate change happens (and may be effected by human activity) and that conditions may not necessarily be conducive to supporting a world population of 10 billion plus....
