USD is a safe haven because the rest of the world is in the toilet (more so than the US). Also, big money can't buy into a small market like gold. Big money needs to go into a big market. That's just the way it is. US treasuries are the biggest market there is, hence money is flowing there. Its the least worst place for big money to park in uncertain times. Unfortunately it creates a death spiral situation in other markets.
