USD - Reserve currency, safe haven, and related currencies eg CHF, large volumes of currency can be moved efficiently than buying some battered and risky Australin gold stock, the goldies are no longer sought as previous, somewhat of a relic in today's globalised markets and digital trading. Bonds are also a useful haven for parking large volumes of investment cash.
