Oh - but do you want hear the best part - a 'small group' of former officials will be exempt from this new tax. The exemptions would be restricted to "those earnings in superannuation funds that the Constitution prevents being taxed by the government" which just so happens to be the case for former state premiers, MPs, Governors, and Judges. Senator Murray Watt 'stressed' that it was not a matter of deliberately excluding former officials, but that they "cannot be taxed on their superannuation under the Constitution, and we are of course not going to be introducing laws that are in breach of the Constitution" - Joseph Olbrycht-Palmer, The Advertiser, Monday 19th May 2025.
