I've been a holder of EVN amongst other goldies since 2015 and so have kept an eye on the gold price daily from then. Already back in 2016 I came to notice what I tagged the "Friday Smackdown" with gold that sometimes was as much as a weekly event, usually occurring late Friday when most of the traders had logged off.

It seemed to disappear largely over the last 2 years but these recent sudden drops are a familiar sight. The Fed's QE program is a PR exercise that counts on the headlines to sway people's confidence without them actually looking in depth at what happens with the money which is just parked in Prime Bank's reserve accounts. A rising gold price threatens that narrative hence the belief that the push-downs are deliberate. At a total value of $10T, the marginal gold price can easily be manipulated.
