    No contradiction here! Genesis 1:1 tells us God created the "heavens"( physical) "in the beginning." Let scientists put whatever date on that & there is no conflict.
    Then the chapter goes on to describe the order in which the earth was prepared for humans to inhabit.
    The first step was to enable the atmosphere to clear sufficiently for light to visible on the earth,but not the sources of light.

    Genesis 1:14-19 describes the forming of the sun, moon, and stars in a fourth creative period. At first glance, this might seem to contradict the foregoing Scriptural explanation. Bear in mind, however, that Moses, the writer of Genesis, penned the creation account from the viewpoint of an earthly observer, had one been present. Apparently, the sun, moon, and stars became visible through earth’s atmosphere at that time.
    They had already been in existence for aeons of time. The word create is not used with regard to the sun etc in this passage of Scripture.
