So I'm not sure if there is a difference between the results of natural selection or evolution.
Natural selection alone will only give you change within the limits of what has already evolved. Modern dog breeds for example are the result of (un?) natural selection from their wild cousins. Drastically changed, but still fundamentally the same thing. The genetic information required to make a pug is already in a wolf, but not in a fish. Evolution is a broader term that incorporates far more than what we can directly observe through the experiment you referenced. The distinction is convenient, because it is what makes evolution unscientific.
