I'm back - yes, elephants are a most extraordinary animal. I once read about one who picked some guy out of crowd and killed him. Seems that this guy had been its handler decades back and had been a very cruel guy. Those involved in this episode claimed that there was no doubt that the elephant recognised him.

They are the only mammal with 4 knees. The only terrestrial mammal that never stops growing. The only terrestrial mammal with internal testes. They are the only mammal that can snorkel. They have over 40,000 muscles in their trunk.

I'm sure they have a better spacial memory than humans. The entire herd in difficult seasons live or die on the ability of the leading matriarchs to lead them on perilous journeys to find water and food. Especially desert elephants.

We have all seen the footage of elephants coming across elephant bones and then gently fondling them for a considerable length of time.
