Here in Australia we have lost so much manufacturing where a large component has been due to heavy spot energy prices applied to heavy and medium industries - remembering we are still substantially fossil fuels. Whilst the principle idea IMO of renewables is a good one I picture a substantial renewable energy industry finishing the manufacturing exodus from these shores. A manufacturer who's bill was 27000 per billing period went to 90000 within two years where base load power was used. Many stories like this and the consumer gets priced away from the end product. Unfortunately the private energy sector here runs rough shot over our governments. US must be similar.
