Yes initiating fusion is the easy bit, controlling it is the problem. Apparently such high temperatures and pressures are required that no physical material can contain fusion and we will have to use plasma (or migrate to the surface of a sun). It seems that China may have made the most progress there to date but the Yanks and France are also on the case so we will just have to wait and see what eventuates.
