The world would certainly find a reliable, safe, inexpensive, non polluting source of power very useful to guide us into the future. Its very unlikely that a single generation system would be all of those so we will end up with a mixture. Plenty of smart people are working on Thorium, Fusion, Renewables and any number of other potential candidates to power the world into the future, I expect we will find out soon enough which sources of power will attempt to meet our expectations.
