No idea what the average EV owner will do, but it's irrelevant, the only real question is how long they last - while they last, they have value.
I expect I'll keep mine about 10 years.
The batteries in every EV you can currently buy in Australia are warrantied for 8 years/160 thousand kms. And that is the component that depreciates fastest. There's not that much else that goes wrong in a EV - all the kinks for the motors etc were worked out in the sixties for the moon buggy by NASA.
If they are warrantied for 8 years, then I would say most will last for 10 years. Especially if they are only being driven 1500km/year.
There are plenty of examples of Teslas that are up to 600 thousand kms and still going - and that is with the old battery technology.
